The course was designed by Tom Vardon with his famous brother Harry Vardon marking out the bunkers. It was formally opened in 1912 with Harry Vardon and James Braid playing exhibition matches. Coventry Golf Club has become one of the most attractive inland courses in the country and provides an exciting challenge to all golfers. It has over the years hosted many professional and amateur tournaments. The quality of the course has been recognised by the R & A who in recent years has chosen Coventry Golf Club to host many Regional Open Qualifiers.
